FESAAL is designated as an Observer Member of WIPO

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), through its monthly report of last October, has included FESAAL (Federation of Societies of Latin American Audiovisual Authors) in its list of organizations with observer member status. The purpose of this appointment is to encourage the participation of non-governmental organizations and other groups of interests in debates on intellectual property issues. FESAAL has been included in this category together with three other international organizations and six national organizations.

The inclusion of a federation that represents the interests of Latin American Audiovisual Authors in the construction of intellectual property rules in the world is, undoubtedly, a significant breakthrough to achieve mandatory collective management and the right to remuneration for Directors and Screenwriters in the region. This link between Audiovisual Authors and the World Intellectual Property Organization will be strengthened by AVACI’s (Audiovisual Authors International Confederation) invitation to WIPO to participate in a second International Congress to be held in South Korea in May 2022.
